WINTER PARK, FL—New acquisitions, free lectures, a four-part film series on American Impressionism, and Friday nights with live music signal the arrival of spring at The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art.
Now open, the Morse presents recent gifts and new acquisitions of Tiffany objects in the Reception Hall gallery and Other Rooms gallery of Louis Comfort Tiffany’s Laurelton Hall. Among the additions are new acquisitions marked “A-Coll” for the artist’s collection, representing important examples of Tiffany’s work. A second oil painting study of Tiffany’s circa-1892 window, The Entombment, is installed in the Chapel Narthex, offering a unique perspective into the window’s development.
For eight consecutive Fridays from March through April, the Morse presents Spring Friday Nights with free admission starting at 4 p.m. and various musicians enhancing the gallery experience from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Orlando Violin Music will begin the series with a string trio on Friday, March 8.
Celebratory events offer free admission, including the entire weekend of the Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival, Friday, March 15, through Sunday, March 17. Live music by Celtic Crossings Harp Trio will enhance the gallery experience on Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Additionally, as is tradition, free admission is offered Easter weekend, Friday, March 29, through Sunday, March 31. Live music by classical guitarist Joshua Englert will enhance the gallery experience on Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
April kicks off a free Spring Friday Film Series on American Impressionism. Viewers will watch a documentary from Exhibition on Screen titled The Artist’s Garden: American Impressionism and the Garden Movement, 1887–1920, and then examine the life and career of one of the most notable, if perhaps enigmatic, artists in the movement, Mary Cassatt (1844–1926).
