Through works of art, this exhibition will translate the complicated aesthetic landscape in America during the Victorian era (1837–1901). The United States, not long removed from winning independence from England, was sympathetic to the young Queen Victoria (1819–1901), seeking its own identity through the lens of their former colonial lead. Artistic trends “hopped the pond” with the vitality of the attractive new monarch. The Queen’s sentimentality and devotion to family sparked a romantic trend which was visible throughout her life and marriage, while her leadership transformed the world in terms of colonization and industrialization.
